HEADSPACE NEWS - Saturday 28th November

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

Well, the Will Young tour is well over half way through and things will soon be quietening down for Christmas. There’s a few reviews on the Will Young forum here

and some broadsheet reviews here:

A day off on Friday 27th  meant I could get home after the Swindon show in the early hours  and spend a bit of time with the family. Typically, a pitch came in for a TV pilot so back in the studio once the kids were all asleep!

Our beloved dog Kizzy was put to sleep last week which was very sad for us all here. I’m sure even the fellow band members that stay over at my house whilst recording will miss being woken up at 6am by a wet nose and stobbering tounge…..Well, most of them will…

Radio news - we’ve been playlisted on more digital and internet radio stations this week, and you can hear us on PLANET ROCK RADIO on Saturday 5th and Saturady 12th December  between 10am and 1pm. Tune into Planet Rock on your digital radio or at www.planetrock.com

You can also request us on Liz Barne’s show from 10pm on Fridays on Planet Rock Radio.

I will be getting together with Damian sometime in December to continue writing for the debut album and Jan / Feb / March 2010 is still on schedule to begin and complete the recording of the concept album before I head off to distant shores with the Prince of Darkness. More news on that later.

Also, thanks for all the posts with news on Damian’s whereabouts. There’s certainly a mixed bag of sightings from bars in Holland to bars in Germany and even a bar in Sweden. And there we were thinking he was out with Threshold doing a few shows…..

More next week - Adam.

The Art of Prog

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Hiho people. It’s Lee here and this is my first blog so here goes.

Been busy this week recording bass on two new songs for our album. Unfortunately I managed to catch some sort of flu bug and this made life twice as difficult because Headspace music is not exactly twelve bar blues ( if anything it would be thirteen bar blues! ). Anyway, the two tracks are nearing completion now and Rich has put down some awesome drum tracks. This music will be brilliant to play on stage and I can’t wait for the live shows next year.

The fun thing about recording by yourself is that you can surprise the other chaps in the band in the following ways: (a) not playing where expected (b) playing where not expected (c) substituting bass note harmony (d) pissing off to the pub and not doing anything!

Options (a) (b) and (c) can really change the sound, feel and dynamic of a song, where as option (d) can get your arse booted out of the band! I chose the first three…..

I still think that the best music we make is when we all  get together in a room and jam. It’s not easy these days because we’ve all got crazy schedules, what with the cooking, ironing, cleaning etc… but the songs are always better for having everyones input. And I reckon these new ones will really come together when we get to rehearsals.

I will post some footage on our Youtube channel of me thrashing away on the Rickenbacker as soon as I can work out how to do it!

Friday 13th / 11 / 2009 - Please help in the Global hunt for our missing singer

Friday, November 13th, 2009

The Headspace office (consisting of the 4 members of headspace) has been busily contacting press and radio stations across the world promoting the EP and getting some good reviews.

Usa prog music reviewed the EP and can be seen here

http://usaprogmusic.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_simple_review&Itemid=28&review=373-Headspace-I-Am

You may be wondering why I said the “4″ members of Headspace. This is because Damian Wilson is currently Missing in Action and hasn’t replied to any emails, texts or messages for several weeks. This is an appeal to fans around the world to join in with the global hunt for Mr Wilson. We would like to think of this as a worldwide “Where’s Wally ?”
Any sightings, please post on the message or comments board. Although not uncommon for Damian to go AWOL, we thought it would be quite amusing to see how long it takes before someone bumps into him and lets him know we’re looking for him……

In other news, it’s been a busy time here on the road with Will Young. So far, apart from the Dublin, Belfast and Glasgow shows themselves, the highlight has to be the marathon snooker match we had in Dublin at the Merchant Hotel. A day off in Glasgow yesterday continued with a few of us challenging locals in a Glasgow bar called “The Red Lizard” to games of pool. All survived and no hospital treatment was required which means a successful day off in my book. Next day off will consist of Go Karting and paintballing in Newcastle. Apparently, there are some shows inbetween too….

On the radio front, Headspace can be requested on www.totalrock.com in the UK, and www.progrockradio.com and  www.ProgRockandMetal.net , uk70sprogrock.com in the USA. All have playlisted the EP and requests can be made from the public if you want to tune in and listen!

I have also just finished the score for a UK film council digital short film entitled “night/day”. Screening date to be announced.

More next week…..Adam.

One for the Road

9th Nov 2009

One for the road…

While the summer sun now fades to a darker colder London I find myself nestled in an hotel in Iowa on tour with One EskimO pulling together some of the pieces of the puzzle that will be Headspace’s forthcoming debut concept album.

Summer has been an eventful one at Headspace HQ, and while we have all been away at various times touring with different projects, the concept and musical form of the album are really starting to take shape. With plenty to get on with we are nearly done at the pre-production writing stage and eager to get on with tracking and production.

As many of our favourite progressive artists from Yes to Pink Floyd to Dream Theater to Pain of Salvation this album follows a concept that has focused the writing both musically and lyrically and we are looking forward to playing this for everyone in 2010.

As 2009 draws to a close you can see the members of Headspace touring with Threshold, It Bites and Will Young in Europe and UK, and One EskimO in the USA.

You can also check us out on www.lastfm.com and support us by listening to the EP “I Am…”. We have been unfortunate enough to be a little slow on the uptake getting our music on Last Fm so we are sharing our page with another band with the same name so help us get out music further up the playlist on the Headspace channel by listening to “I Am…” We have also released a bonus track “Wasted Apology” which was recorded in the Ty Mawr Sessions in Wales 2006. 5 tracks available full length streaming are:

1.Never Let Go

2.Sane Life

3.Symbol

4.Sober

5.Wasted Apology bonus track

We will keep you informed with updates regarding all things Headspace and the new album over the coming weeks, thanks for your support.

Rich’s blog for the week……

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Well, been a busy week all round for us here at Headspace HQ.

I’ve been doing some pre-production recording drums for the new album at my studio. You do find you get even more picky about parts and sounds if you are on your own (Yes, even more picky than the rest of the band shouting abuse and routine name calling). It’s been good to finally spend some time dedicated to Headspace though.

Pete is just about to start an American tour with “One Eskimo” for the next few weeks. Expect a US blog from him next week. Lee is off on the road with It Bites and Take That but is still finding time to put down some bass on the tracks I’ve been doing here. “Fingers” Wakeman is off on a UK tour starting at the weekend and is still involved in the forthcoming OZZY album being produced by Kevin Churko (We’re hoping to get Kevin involved with our new album so watch this space). As for our glorious frontman - Damian is back out on the road with “Threshold” so look out for him in a bar pre and post show near to the venue (near you!).

Thats all for now. I got a severe slapping for being late with the blog so “ma bad” and I promise to bring you more exciting news the second it happens….thats right, headspace news by the second!!!…..nothing yet………………or now…….hang on, thats the phone……..Rich
